Nudibranch Safari 2012 at Gulen

Join me at Gulen Dive Resort in March 2012 for the popular Nudibranch Safari. Last year we spotted almost 50 species - will we see even more the third time around? Either way, lots of fun and learning is guaranteed!

The Nudibranch Safari at Gulen Dive Resort will take place in the end of March 2012 - and this time we offer two options:

» March 20-25: The full, unlimited knock-yourself-out Nudibranch Safari. Arrive on
Tuesday and stay until Sunday - and experience everything!

» March 22-25: Traditional Nudibranch Safari - arrive on Thursday and take advantage of
the scientific workshop and a nudibranch photography talk.

» For prices and booking, please check out www.divegulen.com

If you want to stay for the longer safari, you will get more time to mingle with the crowd, shoot more pictures and get two extra days of nudibranch fun!

Unlimited diving

We might do one or two short boat dives based on the interest of the participants, but mainly the Nudibranch Safari revolves around the amazing house reef at Gulen Dive Resort.

There is simply not much point in going anywhere else - this is where we find all the nudibranchs! Therefore, unlimited shore diving is included in the price.

This means you get to dive when you want, as often as you want and as long as you want - quite unique for our part of the world!

Join the Nudibranch Experts

As usual, nudibranch experts Jussi Evertsen and Torkild Bakken from the University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim will be on site to share their vast knowledge about nudibranchs with everyone.

If you choose to arrive early, you will have extra time to find, identify and photograph nudibranchs - and still catch their program.

The more "scientific" part of the Nudibranch Safari, including advanced identification and biology, will start friday morning after the experts arrive.

Since 1997, Jussi Evertsen and Torkild Bakken have been running a project called "Nudibranchs on the Coast of Central Norway". What these guys don't know about nudies isn't worth knowing!

As you understand, this will be an excellent opportunity to experience the plethora of nudibranch species found at Gulen, up close and personal.

The Nudibranch Safari 2011 was a great success, with a staggering 49 species identified - two of which had never before been recorded in Norwegian waters.

Nudibranch Safari: 54 species spotted so far!

The extremely rare Tritonia lineata was one of the nudibranchs found at Gulen Dive Resort on last year's Nudibranch Safari. It had not been officially registered for 140 years, and turned up on the very last dive.

Did you know that there are almost a hundred different species of nudibranchs in Norway?

About a third of these are deep-water species. We have spotted over 50 of the remaining sixty-something species just off the pier at Gulen Dive Resort!

The nudibranch safari offers exciting nudibranch diving at local dive sites, slideshows, nudibranch photo workshop, informative talks, field work, identification and lots of fun.

Underwater photographers will benefit greatly from the workshop, but even non-photographers are welcome.

All you need is an interest in and a desire to learn more about nudibranchs!

For closer studies and advanced identification there will be stereoscopes on site, as well as extensive nudibranch litterature - plus the combined experience of both scientific experts as well as seasoned nudilovers.
